eBay Sellers : Take Note

When searching for items to BUY on eBay, I take note of many things regarding listings.

Several things can MAKE or BREAK a sales transaction on eBay for me.

Here are a few of those things :

  • Direct, CONCISE item Titles and Listing Content - abandon the adjectives and adverbs.

  • Explaining all the facts about the item. Doing so will build confidence for me, the BUYER. I can assure you, I have flipped right on by many a listing simply because it was very apparent the Seller didn't care to take the time to list FACTS about the item they were selling.

  • Is there a BENEFIT I will get from the item by buying it? I can readily tell you, some of the BEST listings I have seen, and yes, bought, were ones that made it easy for me as a buyer to imagine the concrete benefits of having that item.

  • If you make a claim or promise in your listing, SUPPORT that claim or promise with FACTS. Savvy buyers like factual information, not being spoonfed pablum.

  • Keep my interest in your item by ANSWERING my queries about it! I cannot tell you how many times I have messaged a Seller on eBay , only to have the message never answered. That, dear readers , is a sure way to LOSE a sale, and indeed FUTURE SALES. First impressions really do mean something. When you answer a question from a potential customer, keep in mind, the person asking it- the BUYER, is asking because they have INTEREST in buying, so please, answer in a factual , favorable, pleasant, professional way. Many buyers, myself included, are turned off by rude responses to a question. The end result will be a lost sale.

  • Describe the item emotionally without overdoing it. Yes, dear reader, many sales on eBay occur because buyers, me included , feel an emotional connection to the item. Being able to describe an item EMOTIONALLY, without overdoing it, is like walking a fine line, and I see very few sellers doing it, or capable of doing it.

  • Make me, the BUYER, the center of your world. How? use plenty of "yous" in your listing content.

  • Convey expertise as a SELLER and offer professional insight.

  • Simplify, illustrate and conceptualize your item. You can even use ANALOGIES.

  • Provide lots of information AND pictures, and ESPECIALLY provide a Gallery Photo.

I, for one, enjoy buying on eBay. I can assure you, I am not the only person who notices these things in listings.
