We Can Only Blame Ourselves

Every silver lining has its cloud and behind every beautiful facade is some rather ugly supporting structure.

All the warts and scars of America are revealed for all the world to see every four years.

This year, the blemishes have become open gaping wounds.

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

We elect pimps and hookers and expect preachers and halos.

Historically, this election cycle is no more vitriolic, venomous or bloody than campaigns of the past - what's changed is the sheer quantity of that ugliness and gore we are being splattered with.

Our limited attentions are demanded without relent, by an ever growing media that is driven by profit and now, sadly, ideology.

The 'free press ain't free' - it never was.

Once upon a time, we paid for our Constitutional right to be well informed with blood - today we pay with credit cards.

The day we bought into the notion we are 'consumers' of news, is the day politics became petty and coarse.

Character has been cast aside for the cheap and callow considerations of charlatans, chameleons and con men. The whole charade has become crippling in its crass conscienceless commercialism.

We live in the Age of Discount Politics and we are getting exactly what we pay for.

Two-for-one! On Sale Now! Liquidation!

The political landscape is populated with pandering partisans, preening prostitutes and littered with seedy billboards hawking snakeoil and the only sound is the cacaphonious pleadings of huckster's and whores.

I've been oversold.

I knew what I wanted when I went to the store. All the big sale signs, give-a-ways and blaring pitches have driven me into sensory overload - the only thing on my mind is escape.

I am looking frantically for the nearest exit. I've made my choice - all I want now is get through the checkout line.

November 4th. Less than two weeks away and if I could make it tomorrow I would.

Wouldn't you?
